Flu and COVID-19 Information 

Flu

Flu Shots

  • Annual flu shots are available for individuals aged six months and older. You can receive the flu shot at the same time, or at any time before or after a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Flu shots are now available for high-risk populations. Flu shots will be available to all Ontarians aged six months and older starting October 30, 2023.
  • Standard doses are available for individuals aged six months and older. High-doses are only available for individuals aged 65 and older.
  • Flu shots are available at the following sites:
    • Participating pharmacies for people two years of age and older
    • Participating primary care providers (ex. your family doctor or nurse practitioner) for people six months of age and older
    • Some local public health units
    • Flu clinics, including SRCHC’s 2023 flu clinics (see below)

SRCHC Flu Clinics

  • SRCHC will be holding a limited number of flu clinics for existing clients by appointment only, as well as drop-in community clinics for clients and community members aged six months and older this fall. High-dose vaccines will be available for eligible individuals.
  • COVID-19 vaccines will not be available. If you would like to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact your local pharmacy or primary care provider.
  • Existing clients are welcome to book a flu shot with their RN or primary care provider, book an appointment during a client clinic, or drop-in at a community clinic. To book an appointment, please call (416) 461-2493.
  • Community members and existing clients may visit one of our community clinics. Clinics are drop-in, no appointments necessary.
  • SRCHC 2023 community flu clinics:
    • 2 Gower St: Wednesday, October 25, 2023, 9:30-12:00
    • 2A The Market Place: Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 12:00-3:00
    • 52 Cataraqui Cres: Monday, November 27, 2023, 10:00-1:00
    • 955 Queen St E: Saturday, December 2, 2023, 9:00-4:00

Flu Symptoms 

  • If your symptoms are severe and potentially life-threatening (ex. shortness of breath, chest pain), please call 911 immediately or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
  • Call your doctor or nurse practitioner if:
    • You don’t start to feel better after a few days
    • Your symptoms get worse
    • You are in a high-risk group and develop flu symptoms

Vaccine Booster Video 

SRCHC has produced an animated video that explains in plain language what booster doses are, how they work to strengthen your immune system, where they can be accessed and why they are important. It is applicable to all vaccine boosters, including annual flu shots and COVID-19 booster doses.

 

COVID-19

COVID-19 Vaccine 

  • COVID-19 vaccines are currently available for individuals aged six months and older. You can receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time, or at any time before or after the flu shot or other routine vaccinations.
  • Initial doses of the new XBB formulation are now available through public health units across Ontario for high-risk populations. The XBB formulation will be available to the general population starting October 30, 2023.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are available at the following sites:

COVID-19 Symptoms, Testing & Treatment 

  • If your symptoms are severe and potentially life-threatening (ex. shortness of breath, chest pain), please call 911 immediately or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
  • If your symptoms are not life-threatening, use the Ontario Government’s COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool for recommendations on what to do next. Recommended next steps may include self-isolating or, if you are at higher risk of severe illness, seeking COVID-19 testing and treatment like the Paxlovid pill.

  • Rapid tests are available to all clients and community members at reception of our 955 Queen St E, 1245 Danforth Ave, Harmony Hall and Moss Park locations.

What to Expect When You Visit

Entering the Centre

  • Please arrive up to 10 minutes before the start of your visit and not earlier.
  • Support people are allowed in the Centre only when clients need assistance.
  • If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, please contact reception as soon as possible before your appointment, as we may need to cancel and reschedule your appointment. Use this self-assessment tool to help determine if you need to seek further care. Take the self-assessment.

Screening

  • Clients and visitors will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival and over the phone for one-on-one appointments.
  • Please let us know if you have:
    1. Returned from travel outside of Canada in the last 14 days
    2. Any contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19
    3. Any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, rash

Wearing a Mask

  • All persons entering any location are strongly recommended to wear a medical grade procedure/surgical mask at all times and sanitize their hands.
  • Medical grade masks will be available to clients and visitors at the main entrance.
  • Please note that clients will be asked to exchange a soiled mask or a mask with an exhalation valve with a mask that we will provide to you on site upon arrival.

Physical Distancing

  • Individuals are encouraged to keep six feet apart from others.

Food and Beverages

  • Eating and drinking is prohibited inside all locations within shared spaces. *With the exception of community meal programs.

Changes to Programs and Services 

  • Most group programs, drop-ins and walk-ins are currently operating. Please contact program managers for individual program availability.
  • Group programs are currently operating with limited capacity that at minimum align with public health guidelines.
  • Programs with a dining component have resumed with limited capacity. Indoor eating will be permitted with physical distancing and in tandem with group/room size restrictions. Windows will be kept open whenever possible and HEPA filters used. Takeaway options will be provided to any clients that choose not to eat communally.

  • Rapid tests are available to all clients and community members at reception of our 955 Queen St E, 1245 Danforth Ave, Harmony Hall and Moss Park locations.
  • All program planning and safety procedures at minimum align with public health guidelines.
  • Common areas and high touch surfaces are cleaned many times throughout the day.
