Who the MATCH team is:
The MATCH (Midwifery and Toronto Community Health) team includes six midwives and one social worker. Our midwives speak English, Cantonese, French, Tagalog, and Gujarati, and we can arrange interpreters for other languages as needed. Our social worker supports clients with case management, housing, crisis intervention, one-on-one counselling, resource navigation, and help accessing supplies related to pregnancy and parenting.
Eligibility:
For pregnancy care, we support Ontario residents living in East Toronto and West Scarborough. Labour and birth care is provided at Michael Garron Hospital, the Toronto Birth Centre, or at home.
For abortion care, we welcome Ontario residents from across the Greater Toronto Area. Clients do not need to have OHIP coverage to access care.
How to seek care:
To request care, please call 416-461-2493 Monday to Friday. Our staff will complete a telephone intake. If you do not have access to a phone, you can email [email protected] to request care. A Path to Safety video
Drawing on qualitative data from a research study conducted with 25 pregnant individuals who have experienced homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic in Toronto, Canada, this video describes some of the challenges they face including: barriers accessing safe shelter, frequent relocation, violence, surveillance by the welfare system, and dealing with stigma and discrimination.
The video was created by the MATCH (Midwifery and Toronto Community Health) Program at South Riverdale Community Health Centre (SRCHC) in partnership with the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Data was provided by TMU and Toronto Public Health, and a network of frontline providers known as Young Parents No Fixed Address.
The SRCHC MATCH Program offers a range of services related to pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion care, as well as housing support, counseling and resource navigation. Services are free for anyone who lives in Ontario and OHIP health insurance is not required. If you are seeking care or would like to refer a client, please visit the MATCH Program page for more information.
