Need a primary care provider and aren’t sure where to start?

Getting health care at SRCHC
Many of the people we support are new to Canada’s health care system, are unsure where to go, or have faced barriers in the past. At SRCHC, we believe everyone should have access to team-based care — not just primary care, but also chiropody, physiotherapy, support for mental health, social connections, and more. We’re here to listen, help you understand your options, and make it easier to get the care and support that fits with you and your life.

- Can I get care if I don’t have a health card or OHIP?
Yes. We offer care to people without OHIP or private insurance. You don’t need a health card to feel supported here.
- Do I need a referral or appointment to come in?
No referral is needed. Some programs are open to everyone in the community, even if you’re not a registered SRCHC client. Others may require a quick questionnaire to get started. Please call 416-461-2493 and we’ll let you know what’s needed.
- What kind of care can I get here?
We provide team-based care for everyday health concerns – including help with chronic conditions, sexual health services, and mental health support. We also connect people to social services and community programs offered through SRCHC, along with other programs and services available through our community partners.
- Will I always see the same health care provider?
Not always. We work as a team, so you might see different providers – but we all share information and will work together to support you.
- Is it free? Will I have to pay for anything?
Our services are free. In some cases, we may refer you to a service outside SRCHC that has a cost, but we’ll always explain that first and help you understand your options.
- Can I get a prescription here? What if I can’t afford the medication?
Yes. Our health care providers can assess you and give you prescriptions if needed. If you’re worried about the cost, we can help you find lower-cost options, apply for medication coverage, or connect you to programs that offer support.
- Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring a support person, interpreter or friend if that makes you more comfortable.
- What if I don’t speak English well?
Let us know what language you feel most comfortable speaking. We do our best to provide interpretation or translated materials whenever possible, and we’ll work with you to make sure you feel understood.
- Do you provide care for people without health insurance?
Yes. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
- Where are you located and how do I get there?
We have multiple locations across East Toronto. You can find addresses and directions on our contact page or call us if you’re not sure which location offers the programs and services you require.
