>> Talking With People in The Community

Twice a year, South Riverdale Community Health Centre and Ralph Thornton Centre do a “Community Canvas”. We go door-to-door to talk to local residents.

Help us let people in the neighbourhood know what programs, services and community campaigns are going on. If you want to do the community canvas but not sure what to say to people at the door…

>> Health & Strength Action Group

We are a team of people who live or who work in the South Riverdale neighbourhood. We are building a stronger, healthier community through fun, education and mobilization for change! We do outreach, sing, draw, write, have planning meetings and connect with other groups who care about the same issues. There is something for everyone!

Our current focus is to make sure that everyone can afford to eat healthy food. That is why we are active in the Put Food in the Budget Campaign! We are fighting for a Healthy Food Supplement of $100.00 for all Social Assistance recipients.

We are also working on ways to make Toronto’s transit system affordable.

Come and get involved!! We always welcome new members and ideas!

>> Healthy Eating for Life e-Cookbook

The Healthy Eating for Life initiative is a first of its kind, rolled out by six charitable organizations in Ontario: Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Canadian Diabetes Association, Carefirst Seniors and Community Services Association, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, South Riverdale Community Health Centre and Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. Both Chinese and English healthy and easy-to-prepare recipes have appeared in the Wednesday supplement The Gourmet Guide of the Sing Tao Daily from June to December, 2009.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to promote healthy eating in a fun and culturally relevant manner as a way to help prevent and better manage chronic diseases in the Chinese community.

This project could not have been implemented without the generous support of Sing Tao Daily, Focus Communications Inc. and NICE Design & Advertising Inc.
