PEER LEADER/EDUCATOR (CHINESE COMMUNITY)

The South Riverdale Community Health Centre is a non-profit, multi-service center that provides primary health care, social and community outreach services with an emphasis on health promotion to residents of Riverdale and South East Toronto.

Diabetes Education of South Riverdale Community Health Centre is currently looking to hire 2 peer leader/educators to provide diabetes prevention education for the Chinese Community living in East Toronto.  The goal of this program is to provide health education to adults who may be at risk of developing diabetes.  This project is funded by Toronto Public Health.

Responsibilities: 
  • Attend Mandatory training with Toronto Public Health
  • Plan health education sessions with team
  • Provide diabetes prevention education to groups in outreach locations specifically for the Chinese Community
  • Participate in evaluations of training and education sessions
  • Work with team to develop other strategies for education
Qualifications: 
  • Committed to promoting health in your community
  • Comfortable speaking before groups of people
  • Communication skills in English
  • Open to working with a variety of people
  • Ability to write Chinese and speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin
