Position Type: 

The South Riverdale Community Health Centre is a non-profit, multi-service center that provides primary health care, social and community outreach services with an emphasis on health promotion to residents of Riverdale and South East Toronto.

Reporting to the Coordinator, Human Resources, the Human Resources/Payroll Assistant provides hands on administration and coordination of human resources activities, as well as being responsible for payroll support.


Human Resources:

  • Assist with the maintenance of employee files, records and database, including training and orientation activities
  • Enter approved time sheet data ensuring consistently up to date records; monitors time accruals and usage
  • Produce employee data reports as required
  • Respond to staff questions regarding HR policy, benefits and entitlements and personal records
  • Support recruitment activities including the development and issuance of job postings, setting interviews, corresponding with applicants, interview material preparation, creating employee contracts and other employee correspondence as directed
  • Maintain recruitment files and records of activity and outcomes
  • Ensure the timely benefits enrolment of eligible new employees and support other new employee on-boarding activities
  • Prepare orientation material and assist in the coordination of orientation sessions
  • Support all training activities in the centre including logistics, materials and attendance records
  • Support the development and maintenance of policies and tools to support HR processes
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, photocopying and word processing to support the human resources function
  • Act as key liaison with benefits providers to ensure service standards and contract details are adhered to
  • Liaise as required with suppliers, applicants, recruitment agencies and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Support the work of the JHSC by developing tools and documenting/posting committee minutes; understand the Occupational Health and Safety program of the Centre and functions within the standards set out by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 2008


  • Process semi-monthly payroll for all salaried and hourly employees
  • Issue WSIB and benefit cheques as directed
  • Respond to employee and government inquiries with regards to payroll as needed
  • Work with the Financial Services Assistant to support preparation of yearly T4 statements, WSIB and EHT reconciliation
  • Compile statistical reports related to pay and benefits accounts as required
  • Post-secondary education related to human resources administration, payroll administration or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years administrative experience preferably in Human Resources, with some payroll experience
  • CPA (Canadian Payroll Association) membership an asset
  • Basic understanding of relevant employment legislation an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Human Resource Information Systems and accounting systems
  • Experience with ADP an asset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, possess excellent organisational skills, and be a self-starter
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A police clearance letter completed within the past twelve months will be required prior to commencing employment.
