CHC Food Security Network

The network is a coordinating body that provides leadership to the issue of food security in CHC's.

The network communicates food security as encompassing:

  • food and health (food related to illness)
  • food and access (poverty, culturally approppriate)
  • food as sustainability (environment, agriculture)

Case Management

Community support workers help high-risk clients find and use the services they need. Case management is an intensive service offered to clients who are homeless or coping with settlement issues, poverty, addiction and/or mental health problems.

Women’s Screening Clinic

A female nurse practitioner offers breast examinations and pap smears once a month.

Seniors Wellness Group

Adults over 55 meet every two weeks to discuss health issues, take part in gentle exercise, listen to speakers - and have fun!

Topics may include:

  • safety
  • housing
  • osteoporosis
  • bowel and bladder problems
  • skin care
  • depression
  • oral health

Children’s Environmental Health Education

Learn about substances that may be putting your child’s health at risk. Information and practical options, research and support for making changes in your home, school or community organization.

Chinese Women's Group

Chinese women meet each other, listen to presentations and join in different activities. TTC, childcare and snacks may be provided.

Topics include

  • healthy eating
  • self care
  • law (family, tenant, employment)
  • physical activity
  • health issues

Chinese Women’s Peer Nutrition Group

Led by a community nutrition assistant, Chinese mothers and caregivers share information and tips about healthy eating and cooking. Guest speakers may include dietitians, nurse practitioners and doctors. Childcare may be provided.

Counseling & Case Coordination

Harm reduction counselors offer support and information on safer drug use, health and nutrition, relationships and personal safety, detox and methadone treatment options. As well as addressing drug, health and legal issues, outreach workers and counselors help clients secure basic needs such as housing and food.
